Apple's iPhone 5S is equipped to run 64-bit apps (all previous models ran at 32 bits) thanks to a new processor: the Apple A7. It packs more than 1 billion transistors into a 102mm chip. Apple re-engineered all the built-in apps -- such as Mail, Calendar and Music -- for 64-bit architectures.
The 5S also includes a fingerprint identification called Touch ID that lies at the top of the home button. Touch ID uses a microns-thin sensor under the home button’s sapphire glass, just above the tactile sensor. First it remembers your fingerprint (thumb or finger), then reads it when you want to unlock the phone.
The iPhone 5S camera also includes a burst mode that snaps 10 still pictures in one second with automatic image stabilization. Panorama photos go up to 28 megapixels.
The iPhone 5S is available in silver, "space gray" and champagne gold, marking a change from previous generations, which were available only in white (or silver) and black.
