Google fixes Gmail after brief outage around the world

San Francisco:  Google Inc suffered a service outage on Friday that briefly took down Gmail, the email service used by hundreds of millions of people and many businesses across the globe.

Google, which first acknowledged the outage at 11:12 a.m. Pacific Time (1912 GMT), said a little over an hour later that the problem with Gmail had been resolved.

As of late Friday, the company did not offer an explanation for the outage, which affected users in at least India, Britain and the United States and prompted a stream of complaints on Twitter from users in many more countries.

"We're investigating reports of an issue with Gmail. We will provide more information shortly," the company said on its "App Status" dashboard online, which tracks the state of various Google services.

Bird Films Stunning Aerial View of Penguins After Stealing Camera

A new video filmed with a spy camera is giving a literal meaning to the phrase "bird's-eye view."

Producers working on a new BBC series, " Penguins — Spy in the Huddle," set up a camera in an enclosure that looked like an egg. The footage would be combined with 1,000 hours of shots of a rockhopper penguin colony. John Downer Productions, the company behind the series, deployed 50 spycams to reveal never-before-seen behavior among the penguins.

With one of the producers' "eggcams," the audience receives not only a captivating scene, but also an exclusive view. The egg enclosure for the device apparently looks and feels so authentic that it fooled a bird. A curious striated caracara grabs the egg and flies off into the sky. With the camera still rolling, the caracara unknowingly records the first-ever aerial footage of a rockhopper penguin colony shot by a bird.

No words can do justice to the bird's-eye view and the incredible recording. The caracara flies over a sea of penguins in a scene that looks almost too cool to be real.

NBI Clearance Online Application System is now available| How to Apply

Manila, Philippines - The Department of Justice (DOJ) announced today that beginning Friday, January 24, 2014, applicants for the NBI clearance can apply and fill-out the complete form thru online registration system.

In the new system (eClearance), process requires clearance registration, applicant information, contact details, family background and other related information.

“With the implementation of the new NBI system, we shall continue to roll-out and implement solutions to progressively eliminate queues and simplify processes,” said Secretary of Justice Leila M. de Lima. “online application is the logical next step after the switch.”

Over the holidays, DOJ said that they have successfully switched on its very own clearance system. The soft launch was made on January 2, 2014 with the head office and 18 branches nationwide.
